Exquisite and professionally designed gardens spanning across 10 acres of ex-farm land, perfectly manicured and lovingly maintained.

Our gardens boast thousands of photo opportunities, with something to surprise and delight you and your guests at every corner.

In The Gardens at Bullimah everything is on site

You can hold your ceremony and reception in one location, which means less coordination is required for you and your guests. The whole day simply flows from morning preparations to ceremony to cocktail hour to the reception. You don’t have to spend extra budget on limousines or cars and there is no need to go off-site, away from your guests, for your photo shoot. Whilst you and your photographer are exploring the magical photographic moments available to you, your guests can be enjoying cocktails on the lawn, playing lawn games or exploring the garden.

Potters Well | Reception Venue

Our reception venue is called Potters Well.

The name stems from the history of the property and it sits on the edge of our ornamental lakes surrounded by a beautiful perennial garden. The venue can accommodate approximately 150 guests – more if the courtyard and decks are utilised.

Polished concrete, natural wood, tall cathedral ceilings and a lot of glass. A neutral but modern aesthetic that can be transformed with your choice of styling for your special day.

There is no need to agonise over an indoor / outdoor decision as we have all contingencies covered. You can have an outdoor or indoor ceremony, an outdoor or indoor reception or a combination that suits your needs. You can utilise the dining spaces of Potters Well with some guests enjoying an after dinner drink on the deck, looking out over our ornamental lakes, whilst other guests are on the dance floor inside and still others are enjoying the outdoor courtyard. If the weather decides to be inclement then an indoor ceremony is lovely behind large panes of glass beneath a stunning cathedral ceiling within the cosy walls of Potters Well.

The venue has full kitchen facilities for your choice of partnered caterer to use.

A bar, furniture, linen, crockery and cutlery, sound system for speeches and your dance floor, are all provided. We have done the work for you.

All you need to do is to decide on your décor and furnish the settings that will make it your special space for your special day.

Our professional staff and your personal wedding co-ordinator will work closely with you to ensure your wedding day is truly YOUR DAY.

Ceremonies | The Sunken Garden | The Grounds

Our premier ceremony garden is our iconic and romantic Sunken Garden.

The Sunken Garden is a truly beautiful place to say your vows to the person you love. At various times of day the sun provides rays and halos that photographers delight in. If you prefer to be married at dusk, the garden, steps and arbour are lit to create a magical air. The karri arbour which is built over a limestone stage can be draped in flowers, foliage or fabric of your choice or just left in its raw and beautiful natural state.

The Sunken Garden holds approximately 150 guests.

We can also arrange alternate beautiful spaces in our gardens for your ceremony. There are many stunning locations to chose from including by the lake, or under an arbour beneath a beautiful tree with a backdrop of rolling hills. Come for a tour of the property and choose your own pretty spot. The choices are plentiful and another way of expressing your individuality on your special day.

Accommodation & Wedding Preparation Rooms

Contemporary luxe interiors set against a backdrop of stunning natural beauty

Our onsite wedding suite is a beautiful option that means that you can just walk to your luxuriously appointed rooms after an exhausting and wonderful day. There is no need to hire a taxi or an expensive car. In the double bathroom Ivy Suite, you can relax in the deluxe stand-alone bath (or choose the second bathroom for a shower) before falling into the lavish and very comfortable king-sized bed.

The wedding suite also includes the Cypress Room and the Birch Room, both large and beautifully styled rooms, with spacious ensuite and separate toilet. Each room has access to a courtyard via divine French doors. Your wedding party or family may wish to use the rooms for dressing as well as for overnight accommodation.

Wake in the morning to the sound of birdsong and a sumptuously prepared breakfast that you will share as the first intimate breakfast as a married couple. Another option is to share your first breakfast with friends and family in either our dining area or as an outdoor BBQ or picnic.

A favoured space in the wedding suite is the wedding preparation room where your hair and make-up stylist can work their magic. You can step straight from this room, through the double French doors, down the pathway into the sunken garden and onto the ‘stage’ so you will be as fresh as possible for your big moment.

Our Story

since 1992

The Gardens at Bullimah has a long history. It is situated between Albany and Denmark in the Great Southern region, nestled between rolling farmlands and an old school site which was once surrounded in its own delightful garden of the time.

When we first arrived we noticed jonquils and other spring bulbs, a reminder of a happy school garden, popping up in our own developing gardens. We loved the giant Morten Bay Figs and old Pines that we knew could tell stories of bygone school days and it helped to inspire us to create a little of our own history.

We spent many years nurturing our ex-farm land back to good health and creating the beautiful spaces that now exist. Yes, there have been sore backs and tired muscles and days when we thought it would never end….and of course, it will never end. What we have discovered along the way, is that this life-time passion is just that and we have come to love the ever-developing and changing nature of creating a garden – and we no longer want it to end!

The first house we built is where our children’s childhood memories were made.  That house has since been replaced with the beautiful Bullimah Homestead where you and your family or friends can enjoy some simple elegance.

Not long after purchasing the property we noticed a cleared section of bushland that remained green throughout summer. After some initial clearing, a small, rectangular and largely rotted wooden well was discovered. Our children found and collected fragments of china, pottery, and many small coloured bottles from the area around the well. After some discussion with long-term residents of the Lake Powell area, it was discovered that in the early 1900’s, Chinese workers who had come south to work on the Elleker to Nornalup Railway line, had camped around the area. They became known for the small market gardens they grew to supplement their specific food requirements. The land now known as Bullimah (meaning ‘a piece or place of heaven’) had its gardening history born in those hard working immigrants. We feel it is an honour to be able to recreate the use of some of this land for the production of fresh and healthy produce that we can share with you.

We have called our reception centre Potters Well in honour of the first gardeners of Bullimah.

We look forward to your visit.

Our gardens have been beautifully designed by Patrick O’Neil Design.
